Instructional Updates for March, 2022

As we head into the third trimester, 3rd grade students are extremely busy! Here is what our scholars are focused on:

MATH: Chapter 11 Measurement
Students solve problems involving measurement of intervals of time, liquid volumes, and masses of objects.
Academic Vocabulary: capacity, liquid volume, liter, milliliter, metric unit, gram, kilogram, mass, analog clock, digital clock, time interval

Chapter 12 Represent and Interpret Data
Students draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Students also solve one- and two- step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs.

READING: Benchmark Advance Unit 4
Students read and compare different versions of stories to analyze point of view.
Academic Vocabulary: point of view, opinion, perspective, outlook, position, identify, compare/contrast

WRITING: Informational Note Taking, Writing a Report
Students evaluate print and web sources to research an animal’s body features, habitat, diet, and special adaptations. Students use their notes to write an informational animal report.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: Animal Research Project
Students use their notes and animal report to create a presentation using Google Slides.

SOCIAL STUDIES: California Indians Today
Students compare and contrast the lives of California Indians today from the lives of California Indians long ago.
