Instructional Updates for March, 2022

Hello 1st Grade Families!

March 4th is the start of our 3rd Trimester! During this month we will be celebrating Read Across America and St. Patrick’s Day.

In math, we are working on Chapter 8, which is Measurement and Time. As families, we encourage you to give your students opportunities to practice using these skills at home.

In reading, we continue to work on phonics and fluency. Students should be at 400 sight words by the end of the school year. Students are learning about the past, present, and future by looking at pictures and reading books. Students are also working on identifying text structure sequences, using non-fiction text features (captions, timelines, glossary, table of contents) to help us understand the text, and finding text evidence in pictures and text. Here at school we are continuing to build our academic vocabulary!

In writing, we will transition to narrative writing. The paragraph includes a topic sentence, details, and closing sentence.

Our focus this year has always been about academics and social emotional wellness. We have morning restorative circle talks and check in with our students daily to make sure they are feeling their best!

Here in first grade, we are working hard to make sure that students are well prepared for 2nd grade!
